Beer...

My good friend Amal van Wagenberg is always sending me pertinent stuff through email. I feel this is worth sharing. I heard today on the news that DWI's are down over 5% nationwide since the inception of Uber and Lyft http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/wonkblog/wp/2014/07/10/are-uber-and-lyft-responsible-for-reducing-duis, The next time you fall into the below Phytoestrogens syndrome call Uber @: https://www.uber.com

Now, as if everything else wasn’t bad enough, we find out that beer isn’t good for us?

Beer contains female hormones!

Yes, that's right, FEMALE hormones!

Last month, Yale University scientists released the results of a recent analysis that revealed the presence of female hormones in beer.

The theory is that Beer contains female hormones (hops contain Phytoestrogens) and that by drinking enough beer, men turn into women.

To test the theory, 100 men each drank 8 large drafts of beer within a one (1) hour period.

It was then observed that 100% of the test subjects, yes, 100% of all these men

1) Argued - over nothing

2) Refused - to apologize when obviously wrong

3) Gained - weight

4) Talked - excessively without making sense

5) Became - overly emotional

6) Couldn't - drive

7) Failed - to think rationally, and

8) Had - to sit down while urinating

No further testing was considered necessary

Send this to the men you know to warn them about drinking too much beer

(  This theory in no way reflects this writers views towards women. This thought comes from the Liberal Bias of Yale University research. )

Granny Elaine and Grandpop Stacy have two more Grand boys on the way between now and Christmas, That will make six of their own and 5 Grands. Stacy you'll have that ranch covered by a lot of cowboys and cowgirls for years to come. "Move em out, move em on, rawhide."

As the family has grown we have become a bit more dollar conscious for the Holidays. We now draw names for the elders in the Palmer, Berthiaume, Davies and Fiddler households. This year Zed in Oklahoma had Mary Agnes in Maryland. Back in May while Zed and family were at a Flea Market down Oklahoma way, he spied this Rooster. "A perfect gift for Granny" says he. Now, how to get it to Maryland? Abby's semester was ending at MSU and Jeff would be going to Oklahoma for a visit prior to picking up Abby. Guess what took a ride north with the Honda Pilot. Sam, Zed and children  came for a visit the end of June.  While Granny was out one day Zed brought the Christmas gift by and placed it in the yard. Upon her return, there was her new found feathered friend. Merry Christmas Granny. We have 100's of bikers pass by our home weekly. Sitting on our porch we hear many comments about the giant rooster in the yard. Granny loves it Zed.

President Obama assigned himself 52 hours of reading on summer vacation

http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2015/08/13/president-obama-assigned-himself-52-hours-of-reading-on-vacation/?wpmm=1&wpisrc=nl_headlines

Once when visiting the Vineyard Mary Agnes and I attended an open air band concert at this location. A wonderful get away, thanks Matt and Beth.

The president last week was on Martha's Vineyard vacationing with the family. He has selected an eclectic list of books to read while there. I'm sharing this because I spent a few days on the Vineyard with the Bradys a few years back and would have loved to have had the opportunity to read a bit myself. I was just too busy driving Jim and Sarah about and attending a very political meeting on "Gun Control" to have the opportunity. I'm just so glad Mr. Obama has time to do a bit of reading.

The LA Times has a good article on Presidents and their visits to Martha's Vineyard

Last week Matt and family were on Cape Cod, MA enjoying a restful time. I would title this photo "Sittin on the Dock of the Bay." That is Cape Cod Bay Matt's looking out on. On the other side of the Bay, Plymouth, Mass where the Witches plied their trade way back when. Otis Redding had a great rendition of that song (Sittin on the Dock of the Bay) back in 1968 which was released on the "Volt" label. Sam’s Corner

(Contributing writer Samantha Davies is a 1st Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. Samantha and her husband Zed, also a 1st Lieutenant who drives an E-3 AWACS are stationed at Tinker, AFB, Midwest City, OK. Sam and Zed graduated from the USAFA in 2012. The couple lives in Oklahoma City with their daughters Mia and Anna.  Zed's father as well as Zed and his six brothers are also Cowboys. Zed's mother and Sam are Cowgirls. I have no doubt that Mia and Anna will be Cowgirls also. Thus, the boots.)

As a dual military couple with 2.58 kids (I'm 23wks pregnant hence the .58) and important responsibilities with our church, balance is the key to our household functioning.

Last week I left work at 5:30 (yes, another late night), picked up the kids and went straight to church. I had a 6pm meeting with the cub den leaders. As I walked in at 6:05 with the diaper bag, my church bag, a bag of chicken nuggets and fries, two kids, and an iPad while still wearing my uniform, I got a pretty cool question from an 11 year old boy who held the door open. "Mrs. Davies, why are you dressed like a warrior?" "Because I am one," I responded. "Well that's pretty cool. Mr. Davies and you are both warriors."

I went about the meeting with the girls sitting in the back of the room eating their nuggets and fries and watching Elmo (thank you mom/dad for getting us that iPad). By the time the meeting had ended the scouts and their parents had arrived. I work my way to the door, down a bag of nuggets and fries, get rid of a bag of trash, and am met with a foyer full of people. When they see me their conversation instantly dies. "Sam, you're in the military?" "How do you do it?" “Wait, so you work full time in the military, have a husband who also is in the military full time, have 2 kids, you're pregnant, and you're in charge of youth (ages 18mo-11year) Sunday School?" After the last question was asked I try to figure out where to start. “Yes to all the questions and how do I do it...I just do.”

Life is about balance and about staying true to who you are and what your responsibilities are. Yes, my life is unique, but it is no harder than the single mom, or stay at home mom, or a couple who has no kids. Everyone has responsibilities and choices to make. I choose to run from one event to another. I choose to be involved with a lot of different things. How I balance my day is no different than how the stay at home mom of 4 balances her day. There may be different tasks that need to be completed, but all are just as important for that individual.

Before you judge yourself to be lacking against another person's life, think about how other people view you. You are someones hero somewhere, whether you know it or not. You give someone encouragement to keep moving. You allow people to see that it gets better. How you balance your life is an important choice, one that you should always stand behind and don't let others imply you're doing too much or not enough. No one ever sees the full picture of your life, except yourself.

What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.
