Mia in Oregon

Many thanks to Elaine Davies, the Paternal Grandmother, out in Frenchglen, OR. Elaine has consented to share with the readership, her updates on Mia’s growth, during Mia’s stay with the Davies’ clan. It was Elaine and Grandpa Stacy who took the hand off of Mia out in Boise, ID back on the 19’th of February.

Thanks Elaine for being a contributor to “The Rooster Crows”.

Mia’s father, Zed Davies is one of, and the oldest of six boys Elaine has raised. So, this five week bonding session with Mia is a whole new experience for Elaine.

Below is Elaine’s first update received by the Eastern Shore contingent.

By the way, Happy Birthday Grandpa, February 28'th, ????

Week 1 of Mia is complete.  The hand-off went better than expected as has our transition here in Oregon.   Mia kept us laughing and loving her for over an hour in the truck on the way home from the Airport as we fully comprehended she was really here, after all the anxious anticipation and preparation...then she slept for the final 2.5 hours home.

Our biggest challenges as a family is remembering that there's a baby in the house.  Our boys are the youngest and totally not accustomed to being somewhat quiet and just bust into rooms talking loudly and that usually surprises Mia awake.  At first we thought she would never sleep a full stretch of time before getting woke up.

Mia was on marathon awake mode for about four days - never sleeping more than 1 hour during the day and 4 hours at night at a time.  At day five, the East/West coast time adjustment hit her and she decided sleep was OK.  She has since slept all night -going to sleep at 8:00 and only fussing once around 4:00 am and sleeping until 7:00 - 7:30 each night.  She plays for a few hours after morning bath and naps around 10:00 a.m.   She sometimes dozes off for 1/2 hour or so in the afternoon and the boys play hard with her in the evenings.

Mia has been to high school basketball games - she prefers the sound of Pep Band to dribbling basketball and immediately finds the mascot to introduce herself to.  The wrestling tournament was exciting to watch until a dad in the crowd decided to coach his boy very loudly in the audience behind us and Mia thought he was mad at her.  After getting over being offended and upset, she realized that it's totally OK to yell and clap at these events and not to take it personally.

She visited Grandmas Seminary class one day to meet the kids, has helped Grandma in the office a few times, mostly to help redecorate and clean off all flat surfaces for us. We took her to a feedlot to check cattle and when pointing to cows and saying "MOO" over and over for inspiration, we realized she wanted to watch the small Chihuahua dog following us along as security.  She did get to help grandpa drive the truck and helped back the trailer into a pen to unload some calves we hauled there.

Her birthday was a bit uneventful because it was on the day of Scott's final basketball game being played 6 hours away at 3:00.  We spent that day on the road. She loves meeting other small people her size and always steals their pacifier, even though she has NO interest in hers.

She is about 50/50 on regular milk and cow’s milk now.  We hope to have that change complete in 4 weeks.  We hope to have her totally not waking up at night and her to have a larger vocabulary. Her skin remains baby soft but I'm watching it constantly and applying the medications as noted.  She's just so busy! She never - hardly ever crawls anymore, choosing walking everywhere and running if she thinks I'm chasing her like she's done something bad.  Pretty cute!

All the boys adore her and she loves them but she seems to be drawn to Scott the most. Only half of the clothes she has fit her, but that's OK, her closets are full in Mississippi and she will be there before we know it.

Face Time and Google Hangouts are a part of her life and she enjoys them as long as they don't interfere with her games and business. She's adorable and we all are loving this experience totally.

This week is super busy, and we'll see how she does when she meets some new family members and tries new foods.

Where in the World is Jeff Berthiaume?

If all goes well Jeff will be in Las Vegas as we read this edition. Jeff’s Fire Alarm training and certifications come under the auspices’ of the NFPA. Jeff is providing input to future testing measures the Association uses to certify Fire Protection Technicians and Engineers.

With Jeff spending a fair amount of time in the Desert, I thought I'd include a link to one of the Embassy sites over there. Just click ( Here) find out what the U.S. is doing with your money $$$ over yonder. Robert S  Beecraft is the current Ambassador.

If you'd like to bond with Mia, just head north Jeff. I'm sure Stacy could find a nice steak for you, should you come by.

The Weather on the Shore

We had a bit of a break in our winter freeze last week, it actually up to 72 deg. Last Friday. However, that Polar Vortex thing is returning and tonight’s (02/26) expected low is 9 deg. The people way up north in Vermont have a saying about winter, ”It ain’t over till mud season starts”. My grandson David is up there in Vermont, do you hear that David? A good thing Grannie made you a Quilt for graduation. We sure won’t see mud way down here for a while either. At least the snow has stayed north of us. They're looking for another storm to move in on Sunday, March 2'nd.

Who’s Pulling the Wagon?

The Socratic Club of Oregon State University in 2012 presented two views on the Affordable Care Act, AKA, Obama Care. The Socratic Club has had a number of their Philosophical debates come out on You Tube. “Who’s Pulling theWagon” is one of them. It's a philosophical discussion of the "Affordable Care Act". I’m sure some of the readership here will not take the time to watch the video, then again, some of you will. I’m always searching for answers to just about everything. For leading me to this web site, a big thank you to my very dear friend Amal. Should you find this interesting, go to the Socratic Club web site to learn more.

TILoL

So what the heck is Tilol?  Tilol is, Things I Like on Line. Does anyone care, doesn’t really matter, my Blog, my content.  If anyone ever reads this and they choose to check out the site and try something they find here worthwhile, I’ve contributed something to someone.

So, number one is the Search Engine DuckDuckGo, check it out, check out the reasons not to use some of the other sites and make your own decisions. This article from Brockpress appeared on February 26’th. DuckDuckGo competing with Google? The Brockpress is the school paper for Brock  University in Canada. That’s the country north of us, some call it “America's Attic”.

Number two is a weather related site, I’m a Weather Junkie in case you didn’t know. The site is Weatherspark.com. It has what I consider some really good offerings for the weather junkie.

The Weather Channel offers a lot of different facts and recently they had

Just as a side note, do any of you out there have Directv for a TV source? If so, are you upset
with the Weather Channel controversy? Directv TV has dropped the Weather Channel and
now uses Weather Nation, a 2'nd rate program at best. Personally I don't miss it.

I have more than enough resources here on the Internet. Since we live a remote area, with lousy reception and no cable, Directv is one of the few options for our viewing pleasures.
Oh, did mention old Copper phone lines also? Our NBC feed just happens to come out of Philadelphia and they (Channel 10) are a great weather source, even being 139 miles away. Has anyone ever seen Glenn Hurricane Schwartz? Glenn is a unique individual who's always sporting a Bow tie.

To all of you out there in readership land, I bid you farewell for this edition.

Be Safe, Be Kind and Semper Fi from The Rooster Crows.
