Around the Neighborhood (MD, Eastern Shore, Wicomico County, Allen, Trinity and Eden) Missives and News from Contributors around town
Mary Agnes and I spend a lot of time on our front porch out Trinity way. That's 3.5 miles west of the 4 way stop sign in Allen. It's right after Redding Ferry and before Yacht Club Road. At the moment we're kind of corn locked. Seems Cliff Cooper has a bumper crop this year. Cliff's cousin Harry has some good looking Sorghum also. I'm guessing that rain we had in early spring has helped the crop these old boys up Cooper road way have planted.
If your a come here like me, or just plan don't know, here's a link that will teach you all about Sorghum. http://www.wisegeek.org/what-is-sorghum.htm
It doesn't hurt none to learn a little bit about what all those deer come running out of prior to you hitting them with your car. Now believe me when I tell you, Mary Agnes has hit a few in her day. Back when she was Nursing at the Poplar Hill Pre-Release facility (that's a prison folks, over Quantico way) she went around a slow moving school bus and dang if a deer didn't run smack dab into the side of her car. Early one morning she got herself a Buzzard on that same road. I'm guessing the Buzzard was snacking on a deer some poor feller hit earlier. Thank the good lord for that Comprehensive Insurance.
Well folks, Mary Agnes is retired now after 23 years of incarceration with some very bad individuals. She served her time from 0630 to 1500 Monday through Friday. It was a longer sentence than most of those boys with the bulging muscles and a rap sheet. She loved the noon meal they served, sweaty meat she called it. Now that was a fabrication, it was usually a hard boiled egg and salad., but she always said they served sweaty meat.
Can you believe they even had a pier out over the Rewastico creek where the residents went fishing. And this is in prison ladies and gentlemen.
One time years ago one of inmates was out on the pier looking down at something and his false eye fell out. Well don't you know they called the police dive team and they went into that murky water and searched for that fellers eye. They actually located the eye after several return trips. And that story is God's truth, you see Mary Agnes, just ask her.
Another time it seems some of the fellers were starting a Local Micro Stillery, long before they became fashionable. It seems they had a contact who worked in the kitchen and saved Potato peelings for them. Want to bet it was an Irishman heading up this caper, you know how them and a potato go together. Well don't you know they made that hootch some where on campus, Of course this was done right under the noses of the Guards, can you believe it? Now can you guess how they kept it cold? Yep, hung in the creek from that fishing pier. Can you imagine what they could if they channeled all that energy into a legitimate venture.
I'll let you know of some other stories from time to time. For now it's like that stuff that comes in the Turkey at Thanksgiving, filling.

Jeff is home for this weekend of Holiday fun. He and Kathryn are hosting a gathering, today actually, for some friends. Jeff will be grilling up some Tuna he brought back from the Marshall Islands.. Last week Kathryn, Sarah and Mary Agnes went to the sand and did some 4x4'ing on Assateague and sat in the sun while our grandson dangled toes in the water from his surfboard. This Sunday there will be another Sunrise Service on Assateague Island. Brian and Rose Jarvis from PG County will join them this weekend. Brian works for one of those government entities and Rose works at the Naval Academy. These two sound kinda strange when they speak. They are from up in New England, no "Rs" in their alphabet. |
Sam's Corner (Davies, OK, OR & Military)
Sam's in-laws, Stacy and Elaine Davies are in Africa, specifically Zimbabwe, visiting an old friend and fellow rancher. They are there with several other Ranchers visiting their friend Allan Savory.
Allan is quite an interesting gentleman with some interesting perspectives on climate management by
implementing Holistic Planned Grazing to properly manage livestock. Should you take a few minutes to look at these two sites you will learn a bit of his vision. http://holisticmanagement.org/

Had you read previously of "Country Natural Beef" http://www.countrynaturalbeef.com/
or the Davies' ranch in Frenchglen, Or, ' Roaring Springs Ranch" http://www.countrynaturalbeef.com/roaring-springs-ranch.html you would realize the connection between the Davies and Allan.
Zed's mother, Elaine Davies has been posting some pictures of their trip on Facebook. Here are just a few with some of her captions.

A Bit of This, That and Other Things
Last week I spoke of our change of command at Zip 21810. I was looking up some information on Post Offices for that segment of the 'The Rooster" and came upon the below facts which were researched through a program at Merrimack College in
Andover, MA.
If at all interested in some unique info on the Postal Service, check out the below link.
http://www.merrimack.edu/about/offices_services/postoffice/post_office_facts.php
SIZE AND SCOPE
The United States Postal Service® delivers more mail to more addresses in a larger geographical area than any other post in the world. They deliver to nearly 151 million homes, businesses and Post Office Boxes in every state, city, town and borough in this country. Everyone living in the U.S. and its territories has access to postal products and services and pays the same postage regardless of location.
All of this is done without
0 / ZERO— tax dollars received for operating the Postal Service. Bet you didn't know that.

This young fellow, Tom Paragamian, recently graduated from Merrimack at the ripe old age of 91. There's still hope out there for many of us aspiring to learn. Interesting little story at the below site. |
Air Force Routs Morgan State
Since this was Parents Weekend out in Colorado Springs, the Sternat family of Columbia, CT traveled out for the weekend and the game. No pictures came across the wire of mom or dad but we do have the 2nd year cadet and his two sisters. That was a nice win to start the season for the Falcons. We here in Allen miss those September trips west.

'Some people say Jesus wasn't Jewish. Of course he was Jewish! Thirty years old, single, lives with his parents, come on. He works in his father's business, his mom thought he was God's gift, he's Jewish. Give it up'

And Finally
Our own Abby Berthiaume turned 19 this past Thursday. Of course Abby is down there in Starkville, MS at Mississippi State getting an education and learning how to be Southern Belle. Poor Abby, all alone and no family around on her big day. "NOT" twenty four hours later little Mia Davies comes knocking on Abby's door after a 642 mile journey from Oklahoma City to wish her a Happy Birthday. Of course Zed, Sam and Anna tagged along also. What a great sister and family.
Abby holds her Birthday gifts from afar, Anna and Mia Davies.
