July begins

Jeff the proud father and Sam. Uncle John and my sister Donna from CT.
Mary Agnes and Sarah.

Matt & Beth from up in CT.
I'm experimenting with different sized pictures here.

Just had a T/Storm roll through, got a nice 2/10 in. of rain, the gardens good for another day.

No new pics. of Sam and of course no contact. Will not hear from her until 7/12, end of Phase I. They get to spend several hours with their host family off the academy grounds. On Monday 7/14 they head for Jacks Valley via a forced march for their Military training. I'm sure Sam's going to enjoy sleeping in 10 man tents, rifle range, obstacle courses and the like. Phase II will be completed on 08/02. Formal class' begin 08/07. Between 08/02 and 08/07 the Basics will be accepted into the Cadet Wing as 4'th class cadets.

Ok everyone, M.A. is on the couch snooring and I'm going to do the same. Good night all.

June Ends! Where did it go?

Every once in awhile you luck out and capture what you feel is a great snapshot. This is Sam and her Uncle Bob. Bob is a twin for his late father, Willis. Bob, Mary Agnes and Sarah are brother and Sisters. Bob is married to Barbara and their children are Carolin & Joseph. Maybe by the time I'm into this blogging thing for awhile you may know how the family fits. It certainly is an extended one.

Now the Sarah I mentioned has not been in a Pic. as yet. We shall introduce her at some point. Sarah has a daughter Kate, married to Ron and two daughters have they. The girls are Sarah Kathryn and Beth.

I might add that Bob & family and Sarah and family live in DE close to the Beach in Lewes.

To the left are three more of the family, my two daughters, Kathryn on the left and Sarah. Have you noticed we're up to the 3'rd Sarah already. A relaxed David, CT grandson of Matt & Beth sitting in the rear.

Not a lot of activity from Colorado Springs yesterday. I did get todays Schedule.

June 29, 2008

Sam is the Basic on the right.

Below is Sam's and all the Beasts schedule for the day. Got off letter #11 to her today, I wrote the first letter on June 17'th, eight days prior to leaving for the Academy. I mailed letter #1 four days prior to her leaving. Was an interesting play on letter writing, writing it while she was still here. I'll be interested to see what if anything she thought of them coming from a proud old Grandfather who quite often was the Latch Key Parent while she was growing up. Anyway here is the schedule for today.

USAFA and Sam, Day 1

At least once a week, more if not too busy, I'll make a post for all to read, view pictures and other interesting bits of information for all to gander at.

Samantha departed BWI for Colorado Springs, CO and the Air Force Academy on 06-25-08.

1,373 apponities were in route to the Academy in total.

Sams first day of training, (BCT) Basic Cadet Training started on 06-26-08.

On the second day of training the incoming Basics or Beasts, depending on who you talked to, took the oath of allegence in a massive swearing in ceremony. By this time 1,348 Cadets took that oath to Protect and Defend you and I. Thanks Sam!!!!!!!!

Sam getting ready to hydrate on her arrival at the Academy. She spent her first night with a host family prior to checking in. Looks like she's happy for the moment. Oh the fun shall begin.

I shall attempt to improve on this as the year goes by.

Marching to the dorms. Watching the feet in front of them to keep in step.

OK, that's it for my first attempt. Enjoy, I'll try to get better.
